Kai Young is a controlled and reserved billionaire heir who can’t afford distractions, especially from Isabella with her purple hair and inappropriate jokes. However, with every touch, he’s tempted to break his rules and claim her. Meanwhile, Isabella is bold and impulsive, but Kai is not her type. Yet, she can’t resist the man who could make her melt with just a touch. They can’t resist giving in to their forbidden desires, even if it means risking everything with a crucial CEO vote and media empire at stake.

Book review of King of Pride

King of Pride by Ana Huang is a must-read for fans of romance novels. This captivating story is a slow burn, which will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. Unlike its predecessor, King of Wrath, which had scenes that were too hot to handle, King of Pride has medium heat spice scenes that are shorter to read.

The King of Sin series takes place in the same world as the Twisted series, so it’s no surprise that there are some surprise cameos from some of our favorite Twisted characters, along with Dante and Vivian from the previous book. The author’s creativity in interweaving the characters from different series adds a unique flavor to the story.

If you’re a fan of mutual pining and tension, King of Pride has it all. The main characters, Kai and Isabella, have incredible chemistry, and the banter between them is both amusing and electric. I found myself laughing out loud at the amusing dialogues and internal musings. Their relationship is one of those rare couples who are stronger together. They have an unwavering belief in each other that is admirable. However, their journey is not without its bumps, which makes their story even more compelling.

The foreshadowing for the next couple, Dominic and Alessandra, is brilliantly crafted, and I’m eagerly looking forward to reading their story. The mutual pining between them is equally fascinating, and I can’t wait to see how the author brings their story to life.

King of Pride is an enchanting and addictive story. It’s perfect for a lazy summer afternoon read, and it’s guaranteed to keep you hooked. The plot is engaging, the characters are relatable and likable, and the events are highly entertaining.

The only downside to this book is that the breakup between Kai and Isabella was too abrupt, and I found it challenging to understand why it happened so quickly. However, it doesn’t detract from the overall beauty of the story.

Final verdict

In conclusion, King of Pride is a perfect blend of drama, tension, and romance. The characters are charming, and their story is beautifully told. Ana Huang has outdone herself with this book, and it’s a must-read for anyone who enjoys slow-burn romance stories. I highly recommend it and can’t wait to read more from this talented author.

Our Score

Pros

  • Slow-Burn Romance: If you enjoy a slow-building, simmering romance, King of Pride delivers just that. The gradual development of the relationship between Kai and Isabella creates a captivating tension that keeps readers engaged and eager for more.
  • Cameos from Beloved Characters: For fans of the interconnected world created by the author, King of Pride offers delightful surprises with cameo appearances from beloved characters from the Twisted series and the previous book, adding an extra layer of enjoyment for readers invested in the broader universe.
  • Engaging Banter and Humor: The banter between Kai and Isabella is a standout feature of the book. Their funny exchanges, with Kai’s deadpan demeanor contrasting Isabella’s unfiltered nature, provide plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. The internal dialogues of the characters add to the overall amusement, making for an entertaining and light-hearted reading experience.

Cons

  • Lack of Intensity and Drama: Some readers may find that King of Pride lacks the level of drama and suspense they were expecting. Compared to the previous book and other works by the author, the intensity and suspense may feel relatively subdued, which could be disappointing for those seeking more high-stakes conflicts.
  • Unrealistic Characterization: A criticism that arises is the perception that Kai’s character is too good to be true, making it difficult to fully believe his dominant role in the relationship. This sense of disbelief is further compounded by the overall tranquility of the story, which could be seen as incongruous with the intended dynamics.
  • Pacing Issues: The breakup between Kai and Isabella may feel rushed and lacking sufficient justification for some readers. The fast resolution of conflicts could leave them wanting more depth and development in the relationship’s challenges and resolutions.
