The premise of the story revolves around David Burroughs, a man serving life in prison for the murder of his three-year-old son. David maintains his innocence, and his sister-in-law and former close friend, Rachel, visit him with a photo of a boy who looks identical to his son. This leads David to escape from prison in a desperate attempt to uncover the truth about what happened to his son.

The story is full of twists and turns that keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Just when the reader thinks they have it all figured out, another twist comes along. The hunt for the truth about David’s son, the manhunt for David, and his attempts to evade the police and FBI all add to the sense of urgency and danger in the story.

The character development of David and Rachel is excellent. The reader gets to see both characters develop and overcome obstacle after obstacle. The story also explores the theme of love and the choices people make in its name. Coben portrays the shades of gray where essentially good people are forced to do bad things, and the consequences of those actions.

The mystery surrounding David’s son, the boy in the photo, and the hunt for the truth about what happened to him, are fascinating. The plot twists, especially the final reveals, are quite over the top and may stretch the credibility of some readers. The chapters set in prison, especially those detailing David’s escape against all odds, are exhilarating.

Another issue with the story is the characters of FBI agents Max and Sarah. Their dialogues are cringe-worthy and feel like they are trying too hard to be a comedy duo instead of a pair of FBI agents taking things seriously. Their characters and dialogue are a total miss for the story, and they put a damper on things.

Nevertheless, the entertainment factor of the story is what matters most, and I Will Find You most definitely delivers on that count. The story is a perfect recipe for an action slash crime thriller, and Coben delivers on all fronts. The story feels like a Hollywood action movie, and the entertainment value is high.
